Where is the economy taking the trade show industry?

After reading many sources, it seems as though there are indications that the convention industry will either decline or be immune to the current credit crisis.

On August 4th of this year, Boyd Gaming announced a halt on its Echelon project. The $4.8 billion dollar project will be delayed at least 9 months due to the weak market conditions.

In contrast, Gaylord Entertainment agreed to purchase 100 acres in Arizona, 30 minutes away from Phoenix.  The land will be used in the company's plan to build an anchor resort and convention hotel.

With reports from both sides of the fence, where do you predict the trade show industry to be in the next 3-5 years?
